ABSTRACT
The Web-based Virtual Endoscopy and Therapeutic Medicine delivers a virtual endoscopy capability, via a software license and web-based access along with 4D immersive visualization and therapeutic simulation of medical information / knowledge ,
for disease diagnosis which will include both multi-sensory (visual, olfactory, aural, tactile) and perceptually enriched information (3D Visual Inspectionand Volumetry, data mining, knowledge discovery, intelligent agents, etc.) to physicians for clinical and training use. A physician’s practice, for example a Gastroenterologist, will be enhanced through the use of Virtual Endoscopy which will enable the physician to have a non-invasive access to endoscopic images in the 4D Immersive Visualization and Therapeutic Simulation environment of medical intelligent agents. This proposed Virtual Endoscopy will take advantage of an innovative collaborative, immersive, and interactive visualization/perceptualization environment and will be used to implement Virtual Therapeutic Medicine (WEBMED-4D) with intelligent agents form medical monitoring, diagnostic and therapeutic decision making. This proposed innovation is a joint development by a consortium. As 3D and even 4D medical imaging and computer power improve, virtual representation of anatomic and physiologic data have become increasingly realistic and interactive, significantly advancing the science of computed non-invasive endoscopic examination. There remains a critical need to refine and validate these simulations for routine clinical use, and this grant will contribute to this refining and validation process. WEDMED4D Virtual Endoscopy application will be executed on the practitioner’s computer ensuring the confidentiality of their data by leaving it under their security.
